How to enable tablet mode in Windows 10

The race between the development of portable devices and convenient desktop computers has always been subtle but pretty much the reality. The generic tablet has been improved with a drive to make it as professional as possible to accommodate PC capabilities. On the other hand, PC developers have worked just as hard to adapt the computer into a more compact and portable device that can easily substitute the tablet.

Windows 10 has, however, opted to provide a feel of both these essentials by enabling the switch from the default Windows 10 desktop system to a tablet version. The conversion is pretty simple depending on the device used and the pre-set preference settings to provide incredible features such as the screen touch enhancement, which can be activated or de-activated at will.

The Automatic Conversion

The device will automatically pop up the option to switch to tablet mode. This saves you the trouble of having to do the conversion manually. The device will also continue to implement the conversion if the conversion pop-up is ignored as per the default settings unless this is changed. Depending on the user and their particular preference each time, this can be either a good or a bad feature. However, it can be sorted out pretty easily.

  • Navigate to the device settings, denoted by the gear symbol, just like on any regular device.
  • Scroll to the ‘system’ settings and click on that; this should reveal several configuration options to enhance the user experience.
  • Select the tablet mode for its options and select the preferred switch option from the available three: the automatic switch, a switch prompt every time, or to never switch.

The Manual Conversion

Sometimes, you might want to retain the features of the desktop interface, for instance, the on-screen keyboard. This means the prompt to convert will automatically be denied and keep the device in its current state. To do the conversion later on, or to prevent conversion on devices that have been disabled from doing the automatic switch, follow these few easy steps:

  • Go to the Start menu in the lower-left corner of the Windows 10 start window and select the start menu.
  • Select the settings from the resulting pop-up.
  • Navigate to and select the device system settings, showing all the enhancement preference settings.
  • A panel will materialize on the left side, from which you can choose the tablet mode settings for its configuration.
  • From the subsequent sub-menu, all the options for tablet mode preferences are available, and to activate it, choose the “Make Windows more touch-friendly” option.
  • Switching it on means the tablet mode is now in effect
  • Changing this option to off returns the device to its original state, which will be pretty apparent.

After confirmation, you’re all set to enjoy tablet mode. This is pretty convenient, especially considering that most people are more comfortable using more portable devices and can work better in this more-familiar setup. Not to mention how touch inputs are relatively more favorable than a physical keyboard input; hence anything that improves that feature is a welcomed improvement.

The Windows 10 Tablet Mode gives users a more comprehensive and efficient interface. It enhances the touch input on capable devices and provides a better full-screen display on all the applications, just like on the basic smartphone, phablet, or tablet. Instead of the ordinary Windows 10 Start menu, Tablet Mode will also usher in a more convenient Start Screen.
