iPhone Third-Party Related Issues

Many iPhone problems arise simply because of an app that is not functioning properly. Sometimes a rogue app can corrupt the entire software of the phone, and sometimes it may be limited to the working of the app itself. We have put together the different situations that may come up related to apps. You can go through these app related issues and follow the solutions to fix the problem. Apps can get unresponsive, they may freeze or suddenly quit.

Apps fail to work as expected because of a number of problems.

Network Related Problems

Sometimes, an app may not work properly because of server problems or network-related issues. If Apple’s servers or the App store is facing server issues then the app may not be able to update itself or it may not be able to perform any functions related to purchases from within the app or other functions related to servers. You may see an error like Waiting, or Slide to Update although it does not work as expected.

To solve server related problems, follow these steps:

  • Restart the app – a minor problem related to server connections can easily be solved by restarting the app. Close the app and then restart it to use the app again and check if the problem is resolved.
  • Restart your iPhone – If closing and reopening the app did not work then go a step further and restart your iPhone. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button till you see the red slider on the screen. Power off your iPhone by dragging the slider. Wait for a few seconds then press and hold the Sleep/Wake button again to restart your phone.
  • If you cannot restart your phone because the app froze then try a force restart by pressing and holding the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button (for iPhone 6s and previous models) or Volume button (for iPhone 7 users) for 10 seconds. You will see the Apple logo on the screen. This is when you leave both the buttons and let your phone restart. Check if the app works properly after the restart.
  • Make sure that you are connected to a stable network connection. If the Wi-Fi connection is dropping off then switch to mobile data (charges may apply) so that you can smoothly download or update the app.
  • Delete the app and install it all over again to get the latest version of the app and to do away with software related problems that may be bugging that app.

Software Bugs

A software bug or a glitch can stop the app from working properly. It can either corrupt all the files within the app or it may begin to create instabilities in phone functions that it accesses. Your phone can suffer at the hands of apps like these. If you began facing a problem on your phone right after installing an app then you must consider uninstalling that app immediately. Software bugs may cause problems like app crashing suddenly, screen freezes when you use the app, you are not able to quit the app or the app quits automatically.

Sometimes, an app may work fine until an update and then it may stop working. This can mean that the update can include a bug or the update may not be compatible with your iOS. Here are a few things that you can do if you end up with a software bug:

Reinstall the app – the easiest way to fix a problematic app is to uninstall it completely and then install it all over again from the app store. If the problem persists then the app is not worth keeping on your phone. Uninstall the app and don’t install it again.

Update the app – Known bugs and errors are usually fixed by the app developers through an update. So make sure that your app is updated in order to fix known app problems. You can visit the app store to check if an update is available:

  • Tap on the App Store
  • Head to Updates
  • Check if the Pending Updates section has the app which is creating a problem

If yes, then install the updates and check if the problem is solved.

Restore your iPhone to a previous iOS backup – When you restore your phone from a backup then you end up losing recent data created after the last backup. This solution is for users who experience problems in the phone because of a rogue app. If the issue is limited to the app itself, then simply uninstalling the app should solve the problem. But if the app is causing the problem to the other functions of the phone which are not fixed by uninstalling the app then you must restore the phone.

Memory Problems

Some apps may end up malfunctioning when there isn’t enough space for an update or for storing files related to the app. When the problem is related to the phone memory then some apps may show you a message alerting you that it needs more storage space, but other apps may simply end up working erratically without any error messages.

Check if your phone has adequate storage space. If not, then you must create space so that the app can work properly. People who store lots of music and videos on their phones usually notice this problem.

  • Go to Settings
  • Then tap on General
  • Look up Usage and tap on it

Here you will find details about the phone’s storage space, if your phone doesn’t have enough free space then you must consider deleting some files after creating their backup.

Hardware Damage

If the phone is physically damaged and the app requires the use of a function of the phone that it cannot access then it may not work as expected. Hardware damage requires the interference of the Apple store. Take your device to the store to check fi they can help you with it.

Tip: Always go through recent reviews of the app to make sure that others are not facing any problem with it. If you notice too many users already complaining about its features or functionalities then it is best to avoid that app.
